About Tan Y Foel and how to contact us.

Owl House and Tawny Barn are separate and self-contained buildings within the Tan Y Foel Farm boundary, and is across the farmyard from the owner's farmhouse.  They were the original buildings on the site and pre-dates the current farmhouse by many years. For maximum privacy, the layout and orientation of the conversions are designed not to overlook each other, or the farmhouse.

We aimed to keep both buildings timeless features on the outside, but make them contemporary, comfortable, and cosy on the inside.

Being a former hill farm, Tan Y Foel is on a sloping site, and the ground can be challenging for the less able.

Owl House

The main entrance is on the ground floor, into the fitted kitchen with Rangemaster and AEG appliances, and luxury 'leathered' granite surfaces. The copper-look cookware, matching toaster and kettle brings you the very latest in kitchen design. A twelve-place dishwasher leaves you to enjoy extra time with your friends and family.

The adjoining dining room has a stunning double aspect giving views across the Graig Ddu and Alan valleys, no matter where you are seated at the sturdy oak table. With plenty of room for all twelve persons to be seated, no elbows need to be tucked in to eat the meal. Denby Stoneware crockery with matching serving dishes cater for every occasion and meal. Crystal glass and beautiful stainless steel cutlery compliments the crockery.

The lounge is up the spiral staircase, where you'll find a huge leather settee which will easily seat nine plus a few little extra bums. There is a separate area within the main lounge for playing board games or cards, or planning the next days activities. There's a relaxing reading chair if someone wants to be 'in on the action' but slightly away from the madding crowd!

Two bedrooms (one en-suite) and the bunk room are on the ground floor, as is the family shower room with WC, and another separate WC. Go up the second staircase for two more bedrooms (one en-suite) and a small quiet lounge and reading area.

Outside we have a large deck area with stunning views, a lower seating area with fixed picnic tables, and a stone barbecue for your use.

The sloping plot is reflected in the floors of the building, and the changes in floor levels that result from that.

We have ample parking onsite, with dedicated guest spaces that are sited so as not to impede the views.

Tawny Barn

Park right outside your gate, cross the secluded patio and enter by the front door. Tawny barn is single floor studio, with a paddle staircase to the mezzanine level.

The double bed is to your left and the door to the shower/WC to your right.  Further into the building is the fully equipped kitchen with a Neff combi oven and domino hob, and a Bosch dish washer and fridge. To relax there is a big leather sofa, coffee table and wall mounted TV with FreeSat. There is free broadband and Wi-Fi throughout the building.

At the top of the paddle staircase is the single bed area in the pitch of the roof vault. It has a manageable but restricted head height, but the bed is full size with a quality mattress. It is intended as a child's room but adults have used it with no problem.

For both barns

The heating and hot water system is powered by a solar/biomass boiler plant. Guests can adjust the room thermostats for their own comfort.

There are smoke alarms, fire blankets, extinguishers, and fire exits to the satisfaction of local inspectors.

Guests have the shared use of a dedicated high capacity washer-dryer in the external laundry room.
